The Stalinization of Hindi

Switzerland is a multilingual country. Main languages are German, French and Italian. German -- 63.7%, French -- 19.2%, Italian -- 7.6%.

Singapore is a multilingual country. Main languages are Chinese, Malay and Tamil. Chinese -- 76%, Malay -- 14%, Tamil -- 7%.

If this were the case in India right now, everyone would have been forced to speak Hindi. Fortunately, the Hindi-speaking population amounts to only 40% of the country's population.

Very true...
I don't know whether you know this. Marathi film industry was the first film industry in India. It was literally killed by the "Hindu-Urdu" Bollywood... No wonder why Bal Thakrey is against them...

The Great Language Divide

Language and religion are very sensitive issues. Thankfully, in India we do not fight based on religion. But language is a serious issue. We speak 24 diff languages. That's not a problem. The problem is in getting equal recognition for all of the languages. For example in EU, there is no one powerful language. The European Union is a supra-nation and all the countries have the same law, same EU court, same currency, no visa for EU citizens to move within another EU country etc etc., They were able to do this primarily because they did not force one language on another country (like You ought to speak english to join EU). If they had done that, probably, Frace, Germany and Spain would definitely have not joined. Same should happen in India. Central govt trains that run between kerala and karnataka, should be written in local languages rather than Hindi. As far as I know, very few in the south states know Hindi. That mentality is missing with our Central ministers. They are afraid that if bring this up, they will not get the votes of 40% hindi speaking population.
Even now EU is not without problem. The russian speaking coutries do not want to call the currency as Euro as Euro is a english name. Language is such a sensitive issue. Only when this is solved (without forcing a lang on another), can the country improve.

My Japan Trip (?????)

Yes, both Singaporeans and Japanese are very law abiding. The most funny (?) thing anyone will note when they come here is, vehicles yield to pedestrians at crossings! Japan's Tokyo alone is atleast 3-4 times the size of Singapore. And above all the whole area of tokyo looks like core business district of Singapore whereas in Singapore it's only about 100 sqkm area that's the business center. The others areas are ports, and HDB flats.

My Japan Trip (?????)

Pollution, specially the haze, I think, is a seasonal thing... It was all clear when i went out for a stroll but by the time I started back, all of a sudden, the atmosphere became golder orange with all those suspended dust. "fanfare" is something associated with illiteracy. I define the term literacy with some one with a professional education. Any engineer/doctor/lawyer or a professor will never go behind politicians. It's all the un-educated or partially educated people who create all these "fan fares" around our ministers. Hopefully, the system should change...

Are we to be thankful for colonialism?

And if you have products that the world needs, language is hardly a barrier - people will learn YOUR language to do business with you - !00% agree with you...
I usually laugh at some of my friends who crib that it's difficult to live in Japan as they don't know English.... It's we who have to learn their language as we need their technology and not they...
Nicely penned down...
But, I would strongly say that only because of British, we learnt English. Otherwise, our Indian govt, would have left even that 5% to starve. We have nearly everything we need to industralize. But is the Govt willing to do? The only thing possible to do without Govt support is service industry. The only thing that does not need raw materials to be transported, a well developed port or something like that is Call Centers and Service Industries. Though, basically i hate that industry, it's the only thing possible in India because of our wretched Govt.

Five reasons why India is an "ever" developing country...

"rich man contributing orenge skinsfor a factory!"? Then why mandate taxes...? If govt is not ready to spend the money, then announce that there will be no income tax. This is like in a school just because 70% are mischief, the other 30% are punished...
I haven't heard of anyone (a Brit/Chinese or an American) sacrificing for their country to get their rights... People sacrifice for getting freedom, fight for freedom and that's different. No one ever sacrifices for getting a benefit for which they are entitled. This word is used by "Politicians" to describe NRI's...Only in a non-democratic nation, people has to suffer and toil for their own human rights...

Secondly...

"the least you can do is stay in India, do your job"...
As a software engg, I'm pained to say that even if I work in India, I'm contracted out to an American/Japanese or a European company.
Though a lot of banks implement Internet banking, do you know that they are not done by these Infosys or the like software companies...? Same applies to a variety of Software that are used by Indians. So even working in India, I've to drain my brain for a foriegner... Common sense says that instead of draining it for a few thousand rupees, it's better to be shrewd and drain it for $.
Finally, I'm out of the country not because of $ dreams, but because of racial discrimination... Infact $ salaries are not the main attracting factors that pull youngsters.. It's the quality of life that pulls them out... Infact, earning a lakh per month in India has more purchasing power (because of lower costs) than earning 5000$ in US...

Five reasons why India is an "ever" developing country...

I worked in India for about 3 years before I moved here for higher studies...
My Personal contributions are the taxes I payed during those three years.
What happened to them?
I don't want a India to be rich. I want a country that does not cheat me. A country that does not racially discriminate me. When I was working in a different state, I was belittled by many as , "That black skinned guy from TN.. He doesn't even know Hindi and not ashamed of that..." I've no idea why I should be ashamed if I don't know one of the 20 languages. the same racistic discrimination is shown against our North Eastern people when they come to other parts of the country.
60 years of Independence, and even If I consider that atleast 10% pay taxes honestly, there should be around 100 million tax payers every year. Where did all these money go? In every other country, this tax money is invested back for the benefit of citizens, like good roads, factories etc., etc., As a true citizen, I can only pay taxes. I'm powerless to do anything else...
But when mine and my parents tax money were embezzled by some politicians (over all these 60 years) which means every damn idiot is corrupt), what can I do?

The only best thing is to improve education like I said in one of my prev blogs here and here

Again, to build great colleges and schools, govt should do it. From my side, I can only pay my taxes. Which I did.

WHAT IF IT WERE A “MOHAMMED SETHU” instead of Ram-Sethu?!

This is not something to be laughed upon...
What you have blogged is absolutely what is happening...

Karunanidhi boldly questions whether Rama was really a person? Can he question like that against Christians or Muslims?

Our politicians are trying to ethinically kill the minority because after all, it's the number of vote that matters in a democratic country...
